Getting Shot By a Paintball Gun Ain’t So Bad: Three Things Worse to Get Shot With Pt. 1
I am sick of people complaining about how much it hurts to get hit when shot at with a paintball gun. In the grand scope of things to get shot at by, paintball guns are one of the least painful. If you need some examples to think about next time you are on the paintball field flinching at the sound of every paintball shot, read on for a list of things much worse to be at by than a paintball gun.
Cannon:
Be lucky that there are very few cannon’s still in proper working condition today. When many people think about cannon’s they think of the common projectile shot out of it, the round shot cannon ball. These solid projectiles where often used as naval guns to sink ships more often than directly hit men, but it was also known for being successful for land breaching as the round shot could break through a rank of men as well as bounce when it hit the ground, allowing it to continue its path of destruction. Because of the round shape of the cannon ball, it was the most accurate cannon projectile. If a giant, heavy iron ball hitting you in the chest at more than 20 miles per hour doesn’t strike fear in your heart, consider the firing of shrapnel from a cannon. Commonly used to rain down smaller iron balls and other materials on the heads of enemies, death by cannon shrapnel would not be a pretty or painless way to go.
Captive bolt pistol aka bolt gun or cattle gun:
The captive bolt pistol received a certain amount of infamy as the weapon-of-choice for the ultimate evil character Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers’ film, “No Country for Old Men.” This small and powerful device was created for use in slaughterhouses to stun cattle, goats, sheep and horses in preparation for slaughter. The idea behind the cattle gun was that it would stun the animal by destroying the cerebrum of the brain, but leaving the brain stem intact, thus allowing the animal’s heart to continue to beat, which would keep the animal alive but unconscious during the bleeding and butchering process, which was good to keep the meat from spoiling. You can imagine that the use of a cattle gun on a human would be a very messy and unpleasant experience, even if the gun is of the non-penetrating style, meaning the bolt does not actually pierce the skull and physically destroy the brain tissue.
