How can I make a career with birds?
I have experience with many birds from budgies to Cockatoos. I have an African Grey and two parakeets. I have a ‘mentor’ who raises African Grey’s – he buys the clutches and handfeeds. I volunteer at a bird sanctuary.
I don’t care about money but I need to make enough to comfortably provide for my birds and horses.
Please offer any advice or ideas you have on how I can have a career with birds, they are my life and I would be so happy to be able to work with them for my career. I’ve thought about boarding and behavioural consulting but I’m not sure. Does anyone here work with birds for a living? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!!
I should clarify, although I love all birds and do have ducks and chickens, I would prefer a job with parrots. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
There are many options
1) Bird or bird/sitter Most pet sitters do not have experience with birds, I was not able to find one in my town. You can also offer other services with this such as watering plants & bringing in mail, etc. You can chose your own hours with this option, and doesn’t take up much space.
2) Become a petshop owner. You will need to find the right location, have a lot of captial on hand to start, expect to work 15 hour days.
3) Become a bird breeder. Talk to pet shop owners to see what sells and what does not in your area. Determine which birds you want to breed. Become a certified breeder. Takes some captial to start out.
4) Sell birds from your home. Contact Vicki Pierce
